In a world that is constantly changing, we can say with absolute assurance that there is only one certainty - The Lord is coming. This is the most glorious prospect for all who are prepared and waiting. The solemn question is, "Are you ready?"
Thomas first heard the Lord tell of this prospect in the Upper Room, John 14, and he wanted to be sure. He asked the question, "How can we know the way?" The answer of the Lord was "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no man cometh unto the Father but by Me". Have you come in the only way that God accepts?
After the Lord had fed the 5,000, John records that some of the people asked "What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?" The answer of the Lord was, " This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.", John 6.28,29. Peter pointed out to the Jewish leaders, "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.", Acts 4.12
We can never be certain what the future holds, Solomon warned, " Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth", Proverbs 27.1. Paul reminds us, "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation", 2 Corinthians 6.2.
What if we do not believe?
The Word of God is clear, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God", Romans 3.23, and "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.", Romans 6.23.
What is this death?
Again, God makes this clear, "And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.", Rev. 20.11-15.
